From an OurLIC NEWS article:
Long Island City, New York October 15, 2011 -
The Oysters were fresh and the Irish music was perfect for the occassion. People were just having fun and a good time.
Murphy's Bar on Skillman Avenue was recently renovated. Since then, owner Mike Murphy, and Manager Stephen Murphy have been creatively promoting to introduce the new Murphy's Bar to the upscale, trendy neighborhood near Skillman Avenue in Sunnside.
The First Annual Oyster Festival 2011 was held on Saturday, October 15 2011 and the neighborhood residents dropped in to taste the new Murphy's and have a few laughs with friends.
Along with very, very fresh oysters, delicious fish stew, and ocean fresh shrimp cocktail, Murphy's featured lively Irish music and a Guiness party. It is hard to beat that combination in a one room.
During the course of the afternoon, neigbors and friends came in to enjoy the feast. Visitors from other boroughs also came for the festival. There were lots of very nice people enjoying a great day.
Some say that Skillman Avenue is "undiscovered". Owners like Mike Murphy hope to change that. People told us that they thought the Oyster Festival was a great idea. It will go a long way toward bringing notariety to Skillman Ave. and Sunnyside.
OurLIC joined in the fun. This article presents photos; a video interview with Murphy's Manager, Stephen Murphy; and a video taste of the Irish music. Sorry...no Guiness.
